Mentoring Opportunities
Do you ever feel, as a former student, that you would like to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of present day St Bede’s College students? Perhaps students uncertain about their future after graduation… Do you feel that you don’t have the time, or live too far away, to make a difference? Please think again!
Graduates of St Bede’s, at any age, have a wealth of valuable knowledge and experience to share with senior students. Whatever your trade, profession or perhaps vocation, we invite you to join the growing number of graduates who volunteer to assist current St Bede’s College students with advice on future career options.
We don’t want to make this commitment too difficult or time-consuming, so we have put together the following options and hope that one (or both) may suit you.
1. Career Insight Evening
This is an excellent opportunity for former Collegians to assist present-day students in a simple, practical and time-efficient way. The Old Collegians, in conjunction with the Careers Department invite current year 9, 10, 11 and 12 students and their parents will attend brief information sessions with former students about numerous careers. Multiple venues are set up around the college for these sessions which involve a relaxed chat with a former collegian volunteer about their chosen pathway. A brief talk on the pros and cons of their work is followed with questions.
2. Work Experience Program
Our Careers Centre Staff would be delighted to hear from businesses able to take on Year 10 students for one or two weeks of work experience. Students are permitted to travel within the Melbourne metropolitan area to their work placement, including Melbourne CBD.
This is a marvellous opportunity for past students to pass on invaluable professional and personal life lessons. Whether you have recently begun your career, are in your prime, or enjoying the autumn years of your career, your experience is valued. If you would be interested in being involved, or would like a little more information on either of the above options, please email oldcolls@stbedes.catholic.edu.au.
