VCE Vocational Major
The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is an accredited 2-year program that gives Year 11 and 12 students valuable work-related skills and prepares them with further education and training. This senior secondary qualification opens up pathways to university, higher-level TAFE or VET certificate courses, apprenticeships, traineeships and the workforce.
VCE-VM develops personal and practical life skills. Its practical, hands-on option is a great pathway for students who intend to go directly into the workforce or continue vocational studies (TAFE courses), after completing their education at St Bede’s College.
To get the VCE-VM Certificate, students must successfully finish at least 16 units. These will include units in:
- VCE-VM Literacy or VCE English
- VCE-VM Numeracy or VCE Mathematics
- VCE-VM Work Related Skills
- VCE-VM Personal Development Skills
- VET at a Certificate II level or above (180 nominal hours)
Many VCE-VM students also add other VCE studies to their program. Our Careers Counsellors and VCE-VM Leaders will help you plan your program.
Fundamental Principles of Applied Learning
- Emphasises the relevance of what is being learnt to the ‘real world’, outside the classroom, and makes that connection as immediate and transparent as possible.
- Focuses on a ‘real life’ application which will often require a shift from a traditional focus on discrete curriculum areas, to a more integrated, project based approach to learning.
- Is concerned with nurturing and working with a student in a holistic manner, which takes into account their personal strengths, interests, goals and previous experiences.
